My criteria and recommendation......
Sorry mods, you can delete of course.

wood and such: Timber Town, Windsor plywood.
everything else it seems. Canadian Tire. There are no canadian hardware stores, the ones you think are Canadian, are not.
paint: Cloverdale paint

HomeHardware.ca is fully canadian
I forgot about them! You're right! I am pleased to be wrong. Unfortunately there are none in Calgary. You have to go to a town outside the city limits. Maybe there is a question there - is there a general Canadian hardware store in Calgary?

Good question- got told my share number (from 1988) is still active in their system but has no value. Grumble, but the five dollars I spent on that share is tiny compared with the dividends (not sure if that’s correct word for a co-op?) I received in the good years.

Just happy that there’s Canadian options nearby on the prairies for slings and soft gear again. The Bow Valley and Squamish folks always had good choices.

Ps- your card is in much better shape than mine!

Bonus points- can you identify the mountain on your card?

I cannot identify the mountain (or any mountain lol). I was not a frequent shopper to be honest, but I still have a roughly 17/18 year old pair of gloves I still wear (but are starting to get holey), and a light spring jacket that is in great shape but about 20 years old. My only complaint about the jacket is that is seems to have shrunk and not longer fits as it once did..... They made/sold good high quality stuff. No idea if they still do, I haven't been in a store in a few years, even before the sale. I think the last time I was in one was just after they opened the London, On store. Been meaning to stop into the new Whitby one, and might make a point to now that "we" own it again lol.

I suppose it’s a personality flaw that I can identify mountains and their names better than recalling people’s names.

Mt Serratus. Never got around to climbing it.

I really enjoy indoor climbing. Never even remotely got the desire to climb actual mountains though. Even in my younger more adventurous days. I was only interested in going fast, and if you go fast while climbing, you're doing it wrong.....

Gregg Distributors instead of Uline

Anyone other than Uline for anything, for a list of reasons. Shippers Supply was great for so many years before getting swallowed by that monster.

So for boxes I go to Instabox.
