Just perfect for hobby work...you just clamp your little milling machine in the vise as a good solid base for it.

But you actually touched a nerve there Dan. I'd imagine that my little shaper is gunna wanna dance around my shop when it's running. I'd like to put it on top of one of my tool big chests with some 2x4 cribbing. The chest has big wheels, two of which are locking. Should I be planning some rubber isolators on top of the tool box to help reduce the dancing?

Just how bad is it gunna be?

In top speed, short stroke, yer gunna have a a hard time tossing a loop and getting a hobble on it. But you and I aren't going to do that ....(a second time ) in the slowerer more methodical and relaxing speed, it won't be too bad.

It does looks small. Also badly worn.

On the other hand, the screws on most vises are bigger than they need to be from a strength perspective. I think it's mostly done to get decent movement of the Jaws per turn of the handle. Too much thread pitch on a small screw doesn't work very well, and nobody wants to stand there and crank for an eternity to move the Jaws. The solution is a bigger screw than needed.

The shaft also is small, and has a deep, small hex - maybe to use a deep socket & power driver of some type?
