Left hand thread cutting

Bradells

I have a project on the ole to-do list possibly in the next week or two, that requires a Left hand thread to be cut. Its a dual screw? for tightening a clamp. Sadly the original was made with a coated steel screw, and well, I take it underwater, so a stainless screw is in order.

I can do the rest, just curious who in Calgary could help me out with the other side? (I don't have a thread cutting capability on my lathe, otherwise, that would be an easy one!)

Hi Brad,

Did you get that double threaded SS screw made? Roughly, what size are we talking? You looking for 304 stainless or something more exotic?

Haven’t yet, still waiting on replacement belts (tracking says it finally arrived in Canada this morning after spending 3 weeks at LAX!)

304/316 is what I was going to use (I have a chunk of it... of course I didn’t label it).

The minor setback I have currently (aside from my machines are down), is I need a bigger hammer to knock out the pivot pin that holds it together..... and some free time ...
