Lathe and Mill $1000 Drayton, ON

I think his response is pretty typical for someone that just want's something gone, with minimal effort. He doesn't have time for 100 questions, nor does he really know the answer to them. The ad has 385 visits and he's probably had at least 50 people contact him for more info, pictures, wiring diagrams, paintcodes, and his grandmas jam recipe. He has something he thinks has value, and needs it gone. IMO the price is more than worth a drive. Even from me from the other side of the GTA if I had any interest. I have no room, no need, and don't really want that lathe, nor mill, but if I was in the market, I'd be on Stans doorstep with my equipment ready to load it up and solve his problem for him. With a truck and trailer ready to haul it away I'd be he take $800 (after offereing him 600, and settling on middle ground) With the right equipment trailer you could load the lathe first, and take the mill straight to the scrap yard on your way home. Could wind up with a very cheap serviceable lathe for little to no money, just some time and effort. I doubt it'll ever be a beauty queen, but I'm sure, just going from that one picture it could spin again. With some work of course.

All well and good IF you have a truck and trailer capable of lifting this load in a single go... if you have to arrive without any info and having had to spend 300 bucks to rent the truck and trailer and then found out that the equipment is next to impossible to get out of where it is, and you didn't know because the seller is too lazy and non-verbal to respond to simple clear questions.

How hard is it to say "the floor is concrete, and there is a garage door for access"? Not hard.

There is something else going on with this guy.

I bet he already has someone coming to take it off his hands with little to no effort involved on his part, which, from the sounds of the ad, and looks of his pictures is what he wants and has priced it accordingly. Not everyone is a salesman. Deals like this can be great if you're up for an adventure.

pay for the vehicle, trailer and fork lift the guy says is required and I'll ride this doggie on the greatest adventure.

It is clear that he was turned down by a few scrap dealers and is trying to find a sucker dumb enough to come out to his place

From the looks of google maps, he has a long driveway, where you might not be able to swing a trailer around, so backing in from the road might be the only way. Also looks like you could back right up to the building where I presume the machines are in. Not sure about floor, but it looks concrete in the pictures, just dirty and covered in crap. Should be able to winch it across the floor, or get it up on rollers/skates to make it easier. The municipal roads department is right next door, so that probably what he means about neighbor having a forklift down the road. Doesn't seem like that bad of a job really.

see how easy it would be for him to actually respond to questions...

Yep, first rule in that area of the province is park on the road and walk the driveway. Lots of little farms that were never designed for anything with a trailer let alone anything with an engine

That's a real quick and easy way to turn a nice morning adventure into an all day one.....:D

Here are the photos, I sent my drone over to have a look. If anyone really was interested... for sure you need to go have a look first before bringing trailers ... etc.

Here's one a bit cheaper. Comes with a qctp and a taper attachment! You can drive right up to it, and the skid steer in the back could drop it right on a trailer.

Pickup a couple cases of green scotch bright pad on your way home, some rustoleum, and some good thick rope, and you could have a nice shiny boat anchor that will last a hundred years.

Scratch that idea, I see from his other ads he sold the skidsteer. Going to have to hand load that gem. Dealbreaker.
