Just for fun I took my lansky 120 / 600 grit diamond file and rounded the end of a real file. I use it to sharpen braze on carbide lathe tooling sometimes. I think it would shorten valve stem ends too. Is that a good idea? I’m not sure about that...

Well I think if one was careful and sure to make the surface even then I don't see why that wouldn't work.
