Hi everyone,

I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a professional software developer (currently writing software for communication satellites). I'm keenly interested in robotics. I got involved in electronics, 3D printing, metal working, and wood-working to make parts etc for the robots.

I've posted a bunch of stuff on my website, but can't put the URL here (yet). Look at davehylands dot com

Dave has done all sorts of stuff. Even gave me a hand with some ELS stuff way back.

Hi Dave.

Welcome aboard from Chris in Victoria

Hi Dave! Welcome from Ontarible South of Chatham. I'm a farmer. I grow rocks and fix rock damage.

We have a few software developers in Central Ontario who are also CHMW members.
Lots more of retired machinists, designers and project managers.

I recently received some Aluminum Channel from a Kelowna, BC supplier.

Cool - thanks for the link. I’ve used metal supermarket a few times in the past. I have a bunch of material I picked up when I was in the lower mainland from recycling places that would put aside “billet” material.

I think you will hear that MetalSupermarkets are ‘expensive’, but, they do sell a few common forms of bar & plate in small amounts for us ‘home’ fabricators.

Millennium Alloys is a ‘industrial’ metal supplier who deal in a wide range of products and like to handle larger volumes of custom cut profiles.
Get to know a few suppliers in your area. You can find deals in ‘drops’ from full length bars or partial sheets from processors like Lazer or Waterjet cutters.
