  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Interesting DoAll lathe, I dont't know about "good shape"

Might be worth a look. Might be cheap enough. Looks to me like they've been using it to grind or polish parts. That grey "dust" could be very abrasive.

It would need a good inspection - unless the price is really low; then you just take the chance and buy it.

From the pictures, it has:

3J (with outside jaws)
4J
Face plate
live center
dickson style tool post
Gap bed
brake
taper attachment (might have some parts missing, but the important parts are there)
coolant pump (probably 0.6hp, 3 phase)
missing v belt
Missing v belt guard
220V, 3 phase, 3.6 total hp (3 +0.6?) -> good to operate on a vfd

about 40” between centers

lots of dirt => low price? Could be just general shop dirt; we are in Alberta after all where there is lots of dust in the air
i would have a look at it if I needed a lathe that size.

Depending on the vintage it could be a re badged Harrison lathe made in the UK. It would be worth a look if you are in the market for a.machine that size.

My experience in ads is to be careful when it says "Please contact" and no straight price is given.

Machine does not look exactly "taken care of all over it" my experience with AB workshops in Calgary is that these were sometimes ultra abused - of course cannot tell without taking a look.

You can always buy one of my South Bend 13s - can change motor to 1ph 120V and have a piece of US / Canadian history.

Blurry pictures? Chucks slammed down no I mean gently resting on the ways? I’m with Tom looks beat.

In most cases when I've looked at used lathes, the dirty ones are the abused ones, the dirtier the greater degree of abuse. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the functions were broken.

The guy is trying to sell it and can't be bothered to wipe it with a varsol rag. That tells you a lot about the seller and usage conditions.
