These jokers tried to sell me a vise with a broken fixed jaw, for 350$
He said it was professionally repaired, with multiple socket cap head screws hanging off the side and back.

I see them on indeed all the time looking for millwrights, for an hourly wage I made when I was 16 years old, lol

Its funny, there was a auto wrecker in Calgary I used to go to occasionally for parts. They got sold to what i assume was a group of Russians and I instantly had a distaste for how they did business and havent been back. Sorry. Not Sorry?

A follow rest is not difficult to make. I made this one for my SouthBend.
It worked very well.

Looks good. Did you have room to mount it on the other side of the saddle?

The rear of the saddle is drilled and tapped there were no threaded holes to mount it on the front.

This is such a double edged sword. The main advantage to putting it on the head side is to put it where the action is to directly counter the cutting forces. The main advantage to putting it where you put it is that it's NOT where the action is....

If I were you, I'd be drilling and tapping my saddle so I could use either one.

Yeah, prices out of this world for sure.

I am thinking of making a steady rest for my smaller lathe. Follow rests are indeed not that super difficult to make for many lathe types.

I made this steady rest for the SouthBend it started life as a hydraulic cylinder.
