Welcome from Ottawa. Haven't played with that system before - is it stepper motor or servo motor for the motion? Lots of different ways of "updating" old stuff, just depends on how much you want to mess with it.
 
Welcome from Vancouver! I have a Dahlgren 300, ripped out the guts of the controller, kept the enclosure, and replaced the controller circuitry with an Arduino running Estlcam. I use Estlcam on other machines so it was a no-brainer, but just about any current hardware/software can be adapted to the Dahlgren mechanicals.
