Hauled home a mill today just for kicks !

Machinist/Toolmaker ( retired )
Enco 100-1527 model 1991 dated . Pretty clean machine . I've got one issue and need to ask . On top of the spindle , there is a plastic sleeve that is loose and the spindle will not retract to the top stop . It's about 3" long and the ID looks to be the same size as the spindle up top . Is this a chip shield ? I can't find this part shown or listed on any of their manuals . One manual states a spindle dirt guard but it doesn't have a pic . I ran the mill and it's quiet as hell , so it's not effecting the spindle or bearings . I just can't figure this out other than it was installed to keep stuff from falling into the bottom bearings from the front ???? I'm going to pull it out as it IS split , but hopefully I won't be tearing down the head afterwards .

There's no room in the garage. Where are you going to put it?

Holy cow! Now that's what I call a shop! Just look at that heavenly mess! I LOVE IT!

Looks like a great opportunity to pull an @David and build a new add-on for the new machine.

Oh ya, nice mill too!
