Okay so I'm going to throw this out there to see if anyone else like me has a sand blasting project they just can't get a commercial business to tackle for you.

My friend and I will be setting up for a week of sand blasting at his Guelph Area shop. We've decided we will likely just rent a hood and air supply, blasting pot, and compressor since we don't anticipate sand blasting more than once a year.

If anyone needs a part(s) blasted and wanted to come DIY or risk having me blast the part(s) for you let me know and we can discuss possible arrangements.

Safe, remote spot? It makes a mess and the MOE sorts seem to drive around looking for the plume of (rather unhealthy) dust. Have you inquired with any mobile sandblasting services? Probably a lot more of those about. Might be easier/faster/cheaper to get everything read and have them come to your yard.

There's sandblasting and then there's sandblasting ...... how many CFM do you plan on using?

Man I missed this reply.

We ended up on this road because all the mobile and even non mobile companies could not be bothered with our low volume needs. Not even when I promised to bring fully prepped parts to them ready to blast. One went so far as to say only an idiot wants to blast scaffolding to strip it.

We're fully out in the country but not far from Guelph. But in Eramosa not Geulph.

I'm going to blast a general model 130 planer and a dunlap drill press first as a test. They're small enough that at least it shouldnt take forever. Based on the results we can adjust our plans.

No loss anyway, we needed a shed, had a compressor and can use the space to paint.

I wouldn't being using sand for this although the generic term is always sandblasting. Walnut shells, soda, glass beads all come to mind as gentler and less toxic materials. Definitely not beach sand.

Absolutely Gerrit, I would not use anything hazardous even with an appropriate respirator/hood.
