Hello All,

Norm here from various locations around the Outaouais. I am a self-diagnosed follower of metal working rabbit holes. My journey began with an interest in machine restoration, then blacksmithing, followed by welding/fabrication, and finally machining....And now I have a chunk of granite sitting on my table ready for Whitworth's three plate lapping method.

Please help.

The Norm

PS - Very excited and grateful to have found this forum. Thank you in advance for all the rabbit holes!

Wow.... Brand new member who is about to try lapping a surface plate....... I do know how, but I'm not doing it. Waaaay too much work for an old man. Especially with a big stone. And a smaller stone isn't worth it - at least not for me.

For me, it was a lot easier to wait for a good stone. And it really was a long wait. But it finally happened this past summer. A 24x36 Mitutoyo Grade A in great condition. I'm VERY happy with it and glad I waited.

Ya, welcome to the gang. And ya, we will all help you on your journey. Bring it on!
