  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Shop Flooring Materials

Shop
I sealed the concrete, and got some new conveyor belting , 1/2' thick or so to lay in work area of lathe. I also have some floor mats out of Caterpillar D10 Tractor floors that I use.
Why did you seal the concrete? To protect the floor for function or aesthetic?

I sealed the floor to make spills easier to clean up, Dust control & to hopefully prevent moisture from coming up through the floor. My wife & I built the shop back in 2014, and the regret I have is not putting a minimum of a vapour barrier (poly) and what I figure would have been nicer would have been Blue SM Styrofoam, 1" better 2". A thermal break would have been better than the 50 degree earth.

Yup, dust control is key for me. My first garage shop had unsealed concrete floor. Within a few years there was much grinding of concrete by chips underfoot and concrete dust everywhere. New shop had concrete epoxied after deep HCL etch before any machines were brought in. A little spendy, but twenty years later the floor is still mostly holding up.

Also put vapor barrier under concrete, and radiant heat. Love it!
