When I first saw it and saw the damage. I kind of laughed at it and thought "Throw it away, buy a new one". But now I am thinking "Damn this is going to work".

He is lucky though. The amount of hours that went into this so far would have cost him an arm and a leg. He was going to try to do this stuff with a hand drill :)
 
I'm a little lost here (nothing new for me LOL). You JB's the metal dowel in place and then drilled and tapped the dowel?
 
Interesting link. I always wondered how much real bluing cost at a typical gunsmith shop.
