Documenting your DIY and hobby work?

Ha Ha was just thinking about "priorities" and my shop records...In my loading room I have a documented record of every caliber, powder, bullet, load formula I have use since 1979, over 200,000 rounds at last count, prob over 220 now, but I cant tell you what that piece of manuf steel was for that has leaned against the door jam for 15 yrs..

Most of my projects start as CAD (it's way cheaper to scrap a digital part than a real one). So for the most part I have a pretty good record of that stuff. What gets me are my old programming projects or stuff with arcane software. I'm terrible at writing notes when I'm clever enough to understand what I'm working on, and it leaves me with an incomprehensible mess when I return to it later to fix/modify something. Especially when I come back to it months/years later.

I document most of my work where I feel it is necessary and yes, I find it very useful.

I document my work some of the time but seldom find it a problem if I don't.

I document my work almost never and rely on my memory which seldom fails.

I document my work almost never and regret it often.

I document my work not only for myself but for whomever might inherit my stuff later.
