Tips/Techniques DIY welding squares and angles

Wanted to give folks a heads up on a welding squares that I've seen made using tablesaw extension tables like these:


I've seen them cut up into pieces so you get a number of right angle corners and some other useful angles from the inside bits. They are pretty easy to come by on older Craftsman tablesaws and being cast iron are easy to cut up and machine square etc.

Obviously not feasible because of distance but something like this:

Thanks for the heads up David. I have seen people using these as welding tables as well recently. Remove the whole top and build a new set of legs underneath.

Agree, old table saws are a wealth of parts for projects. @YYCHM salvaged a delta saw for me out an alley in NE Calgary. It is now the base table for my tool grinder. It had the solid metal hand wheels too and those went to a different project

I have an old craftsman 12" that I never use anymore. It's a workbench now. It had the motor on the blade shaft - no belts. Sector gear kept stripping.

New 10" saws have a deeper cut because of belt drives.

I am now seeing that old saw and its parts in a whole new light thanks to this discussion....
