CA-ON Decent Drill Bits?

Ontario

Tool
Seriously, they charge $3 to pick something up if you buy less that $25??
Just saying, I'm not trying to convince you to buy from anyone I go to. Cutting tool pickers I've only dealt with them through the mail. Always fair prices and usually I receive it within 5 days.

As for Canadian Tire, their Cobalt drills are good, straight and long lasting. Of course every tool in the hands of an inexperience user, will fail.

Have a good day.

Mostly order PTD bits now, from KBC. Tried their house brand, got some poorly sharpened bits, called them about it, and their response was ‘what did you expect?’

Maddening!

Do you have a Varco near you?

That's where I buy Dormers. They keep them in stock. I have NEVER had a bad one. Rarely have to wait for a back order, and even when I did, they were there the next day.

I'd like a cheaper set that work though for rough drilling and abusing. I just don't want the kind of junk you got. That crap is just scrap. I'll prolly buy a set from Crappy Tire to try like @Tinker got. If they will let me, I'll take a good look at them first. It would be nice to be able to recommend some working drills like that. We will see.

Interesting. I wonder which CTire bits he tried? He didn't say that I noticed.
I would guess they are the old fashioned non cobalt HSS. I would also guess that anything from CT that is labelled as M35 or M42 would be genuine cobalt bits and a reasonable buy.

Edit: Actually he does say near the beginning that the CT bit is a Titanium nitride coated HSS.

For what it's worth, I'm not a believer in titanium coated drills. What the heck are you supposed to do when the coating wears off? And in my experience, that happens really fast!

On the other hand, Cobalt is an ingredient in the HSS itself. And it does make a difference!

As I said, I'm gunna try a set next time they go on sale.

^ +1 to that!!! No point in sharpening a coated bit if you intend to keep using it for hard metals like steel.
