As you say that you have delt with this problem before, it would seem Hyundai would have seen to it. Though if they did, it would be like admitting to a mistake, and what that could lead to.
Much like the “killer dowl pin” with Cummins, in hand with not being able to remove the the timing gear case because of the timing gear.
Looks like you have that one in hand!
 
Hyundai/kia definitely know that this is a problem. They are usually very good about implementing fixes quickly, so I'm sure it has been addressed via recall or at least a TSB. I'm just not personally aware of it, havingleft the dealer 3 years ago. The cars I fixed at the dealership would have been repaired under warranty. this car being 7 years old, is past the 5 year factory warranty.

I always laugh about the Cummins KDP. Such a stupid oversight.
