CX706 DRO

Hi y'all,
Well I've went ahead an ordered a DRO from China for my CX706 lathe, here are the details:

As for the actual details, I've ordered the KA500 scales because they are thinner then the other models:

Shipment is scheduled for today, will post a picture once installed and/or during the process.

Cheers!

I installed one on my CX706. I used what I had (leftovers for the scales). I'm just using the touchscreen that I'm using for LinuxCNC for the display. I think once you have used a DRO on any machine operating one without is just a PITA in need of an upgrade.

Ok, so small update on my progress so far, here is what I'm planning for the X-Axis reader and linear scale:

Slotted aluminum plate will allow adjustments of the gib screws:

Small angle plate will allow positionning of the reader head stationary with the carriage:

Should be able to get these done during the weekend.
Cheers!!!

So true. I've had a Shumatech on my mill pretty well right from the start. Don't know how one can run a mill without something like that.

Looks good, one thought, it might be worth the time to fix the cross slide lock while your in there.
I replaced the cap screw with a regular bolt and put a short spacer under the head, so it sticks up slightly. Then a closed end wrench on that bolt head gets captured by the scale mount.

It was not uncommon that one of the gib screws was blocking the cross slide lock screw, but not anymore and you never need to reach for the Allen key.

What if any, part number or description on the slim scale you installed on your lathe.
They are a standard Ditron order option...

My plan is to install the tape INSIDE my cross-slide. That way it is protected and isn't vulnerable to swarf on the left side or the tailstock on the right side.
