I have seen on YouTube engines mounted to a cart and set up and running. When I was working at Ontario Hydro Nanticoke Generating Station we had 3 Orenda Jet engines coupled to a 4:1 gear box running a 4 pole generator each rated at 8 Megwatts. They were there as stand by emergency power should the station and the grid go BLACK. As an apprentice I would go with the Shift Electrician from time to time and witness a start up of the units. Some of these older engines were required to be started every 10 days to prevent corrosion. Don't ask me where or why. But every Friday morning all of the units were started and run for 30 minutes. At idle, no load each engine consumed 4 US gallons of Jet-A per minute. Double that loaded. Sure was a neat sound hearing them crank, ignite and spool up.What does a person do with that? Other than marvel at the cool factor?
