Buying socket head cap screws online

Read the synopsis of this if you want to be scared of buying over-the-counter medicines, or bolts, or hardware, or watches.

Sort of what I always assumed anyway. A few business trips to Africa, China, India, Middle East, and Russia would sober up St Teresa.

Just proves that there are always gunna be buyers who only look at the price tag.

I saw a note somewhere that in the future if you need to work on the system, painting the heads of the imperials will save the use of shop words when running back and forth to the toolbox for the right wrench.
My metrics are painted red, the imperial blue. For allen keys or wrenches. Even some of the larger drill bits that lie in the drill bit drawer have red paint on them.

In my industry (industrial valves & piping), 50% of the fasteners we get with our overseas products are counterfeit. 316 bolts made of 303, Grade 8 bolts made of 1018-ish steel. Yeah, the stuff I manufacture for one of my clients requires complete end to end tracking of components. So although I might find a particular IC available from some supplier in China I'm not allowed to buy it.

A somewhat amusing choice as it seems she was anything but as represented.

Hitchen's makes a more vehement case.

Anyway, these challenges I thought were the great killer application for block chain technology. I know some senior supply chain who were looking at it..... but I've been out of that loop for a while. Anyone doing so? You'd think that would be the idea way to solve the problem.

I've never had a problem convincing Fastenal to take my money. My annual purchases have varied from perhaps $25 to $2500. And mostly towards the lower!

You enjoyed that didn't you! And so you should. I confess your got me! I didn't think it through.

That said Mother Teresa is not the same person as Saint Teresa. And I did say sober her up......

But I not using that as an excuse or an escape. The problem is that most religious people back in St. Teresa's day had more sex than I do and my wife could make a whole warren of rabbits blush. Who knows what someone like you could dig up on Saint Teresa......

ahhhh, you got me there! I understood she was under review and Hitchen's went to the Vatican to protest..... ASS u ME d your post meant she'd passed the audition.

How do you guys get good Fastenal stores? Here in Alberta they turn us away. Literally. I have a business, and they said that they purged all accounts buying less than 10K$ per year. No go for any future purchases. WTF?

(I went to 3 of the stores in the area and it is the same story)
There used to be a Fastenal here in Airdrie that I frequented often, then they refused to sell to me. The story I got was that they were licensed in Canada as a wholesaler only and got in trouble for doing counter sales to individuals?

of course they are BSing you. I get the same in Calgary, even with an account.

Didn't put my 2¢ in before since I'm not local, but assuming the postage (and fees, etc.) wouldn't be too high, I get most of my fasteners from Bolt Depot:

I will occasionally get specialized fasteners & hardware from McM or Zoro, but unless it's an immediate need (usually not) I build a shopping cart to minimize shipping costs; Bolt Depot, McM and Zoo all save my cart, and McM & BD allow you add notes to line items so I can remember why I want something ;) .

I buy everything from Amazon, nothing has fallen apart yet. Of course I would think differently if I was building a submarine or an airplane or something. The 12.9 grade cap screws seem alright to me.

so I can remember why I want something

I hate getting old. Some of these folks take so long sending stuff. By the time it arrives I forget why I wanted it.

I keep a wanted to-do list on my phone and PC where I list the item I need, source, pricing, and purpose.

MC is so expensive that I don't often source there. Any notes I left on MC products would get lost.

That’s why labels in the saved cart are handy, assuming you can find the password for the site!

I only use MC and Zoro for hardware-ish items if:

• I can’t find it elsewhere

• I’m already placing an order

• I need to get above free shipping threshold

• Getting from international sources would take too long

I'm not familiar with Zoro - other than his amazing ability to disrobe Catherine Zeta-Jones. What are they all about?
Zoro (or ZORO) is a subsidiary of Grainger; can buy from their website or on eBay (you need to check both for the best price). Many times Zoro is cheaper than Grainger or has items that Grainger doesn’t sell. Also, once you register you get free shipping (at least in the U.S.) over $50 and after ordering get monthly coupons for up to 20% off just about anything (including Starrett).

Grainger is good in my case because there is a nearby branch and if you have an order shipped to the branch you don’t pay shipping. I have purchased metal from Grainger (drop shipped to the branch from Online Metals) for less than buying direct (OK, material cost was a little higher, but total cost was significantly less).

Doesn't take much to be cheaper than grainger I'm not sure I have ever seen somewhere that wasn't cheaper than grainger unless you have a business account with them and buy in high volume every year.
