Busted alum fitting from pressure washer

Gennady

Super User
Hello gang.
I had a pressure washer which I forgot to disconnect from pressure gun hose and got a frozen water damage on lower fitting. To my luck it is separate piece of die casted aluminium. Alloy is very light and fragile -no wonder I failed to weld it , considering my welding skills and equipment. I am going to make a new one. Carefully. copied all dimensions and preparing for few evenings in the shop.

Here is my, rather pointless, attempt to weld. Fitting is collapsing right away, leaving awful voids. Will remake it...

Made one side of the fitting - Bored and made tapered inlet for the hose connector with O-ring.

Cut a thread according to measurements 18 TPI - diameter is metric but I feel more comfortable this way. It fits hose connector and screw on quite OK. (Thoughts while cutting thread - need to make ELS, need to make ELS)

Next - I flipped part in the chuck (no concentricity is needed) and made second end. Connector with grove for O-ring

Two parts for comparison - I made new one longer due to two reasons - it was easier to chuck it up and it easier to connect water hose in pressure washer. Grooves for locking pis I made with hack saw and file.

Now pressure washer as good as new :)
