Brown and Sharp – No. 2L Surface Grinder, $950, Dundas, ON

So For such an investment, it should be examined under power before finalizing the deal.

Do we have anyone that knows Surface grinders, that is near Dundas, to look at the machine? I've asked @Ironman to see if the current owner can power it up, and if there is a grinding wheel on it. The perfect short test is to hear it running (after 5 minutes) and then grind a small coupon on it - about 1-1.5 inches wide by 1.5 -2 inches long, both sides, and then check for parallel with a micrometer. No need for a 5 block test, or anything more exotic. 20 minutes will tell the tale. Any takers?

The listening is for noisy main spindle bearings. The parallel test is to see if the middle of the ways is true.

Almost anything else is fixable on this machine. Fixing the ways - scrap the machine. Spindle bearings - over 1500$. New bearings for my B&S are about 2400$, 5 years ago.
