Baldor 6" grinder - and - 42"belt/8"disc sander/grinder

Not sure what the magnet version looks like.

Here is an example.

This one is not cheap. I have one like this but it didn't cost me anywhere near that much.

For the three blades in my 74 inch mower deck, it still pays for itself in just one use.

It works just like @Jswain describes.

Lots of sellers with big price ranges on Amazon - I found this one at $55 (delivered +tax). Is this closer to what you paid?
It's a long time till spring but I may order it now since the Christmas spree didn't quite break the bank.

Tks @Ironman
Is yours a similar 6" size? Is $300 a good price for a kijiji in the box crap shoot?
I'm thinking about ditching my CT Maximum 8" bench grinder for a better-quality smaller bench grinder (like this Baldor) & then adding a 42" belt/8"disc grinder to the shop.
Sorry I missed this. Mine is a 6 inch just like the 612R in the picture and was complete.

OK, balancing mower blades is new to me. Never done it and never experienced vibration after sharpening.

Is this a part of dark magic or does it really help anything? Hitting a rock will cause a bent blade and vibrate like heck, BTDT, so you replace the bent blade. I put new high lift blades on last fall, and the new blades ran as smooth and vibration free as the clapped out ones I had sharpened to the last bit.

I don't really remember what I paid Craig. It was a long time ago. My best guess would be $39.99. The main criteria for this kind of balancer is the quality of the bearing. A nail in the wall with a bushing would work better than a crappy sticky bearing.

Such a purchase can't break any bank. You save more on blades than the cost of the balancer. It pays for itself. Buying now is also a good idea because it's a perfect time of year to sharpen lawn Mower blades.

I think the cost of blades is relatively low, at least for me since my blades last many years. But then I rarely hit a rock or stone. I am more concerned with maximizing spindle life by reducing vibration and unbalanced loads. My zero-turn is over 8 years old with original blades - BUT - last year I replaced the spindle bearings (shaft & sealed bearings come as a unit and are more $ than blades).
(My 25+ year-old Kubota had spindle grease fittings and the spindles never needed replacing - but most manufacturers don't use grease fittings on lawnmower blade spindles anymore.)

Back to the kijiji grinder. I have been communicating with the owner (seller).
Holidays have delayed coordinating the transaction - my son is picking it up for me after New Years.
The seller inherited it from his uncle who was going to start a business but never did. It was purchased 40 years ago and sat in the uncle's basement unopened in the box. When my son picks it up, then it will come out of the box and be plugged in for the first time. If it checks out OK, then it's mine.

Mine is a Deere diesel. That way I can use dyed diesel in it. Same for my ATV. Like yours, mine has grease nipples at the top of all three spindles and the drive pulleys. They are 15 years old now and still going like new. I mow about 5 acres including the trails and farm lanes, we grow rocks here, and grandkids love mowing rocks - so I sharpen and balance blades far too often. For me, the balancer pays for itself every year.

Kinda on the grinder theme - but this week I finalized a kijiji deal for this JET 42"belt/8" disc grinder/sander.

The seller is in Pembroke, so I took a wild shot at it and asked if he ever got down to my neck-of-the-woods.
He is in no rush and agreed to deliver on his next trip to Guelph, but not till Easter :-( I proposed to send him a deposit and he accepted that offer (I think the deposit is a good way to keep things firm and still friendly).
It is new, only used a few minutes to check that everything was working properly.

On Amazon (Canada) they are unavailable presently.

In the US they list at 599US$

I have been thinking about getting a good belt sander for a while. The 72" is too much (money & space), while the 30" belt/6"disc seems too small and underpowered. IMO, the 42 belt/8" disc is the Goldilocks size. I was planning to get a King Canada KC770FX from TEGS Tools while they are still on sale (@$499 till the end of January). The KC770 uses either a 1" or a 2" belt and it has a bit more power than the JET but I really like the compact size and overall design of the JET. I'm sure the JET will do everything I want (plus the kijiji deal saves me a couple hundred bucks over the KC770) :-)

PS - you might notice I edited the title of this post to include the JET

I have a similar dual purpose unit that I use a fair bit. I think you will like it.

Go for a drive with the bride!

It's really old Craig. I originally bought it for woodworking (sorry guys, ya I play with wood too.....). It has a wide belt and a disk. I'll try and get you model info tomorrow.

No, I'd buy a metal working machine and use it for wood if I had to do it over again.
