Anyone try Wamo / self-driving yet?

That's another snake oil ploy that harkens back to the great space race and collective American "victory" he wants to be associated with. Consumers can see him as the brave explorer of the "new world" and this positive association helps his related projects (AI, robots). Just another roadster stunt to string people along.

There is no desire for him and his buddies for Mars. The only way that happens is if Mars becomes Elysium (2013) and the rest of us are left with scorched earth. He isn't giving up pina colladas or his luxury homes. Where will he find servants and all the attention? He needs us.

No, in Musk's case there is a genuine wish for a naive science-fiction-fueled life on Mars - it's not some kind of cynical future-carrot he's dangling out for others, it's an actual belief system. There was a particularly good (and credible) podcast on him that focused on it a few years ago. I should dig up the reference.
