  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

A big thank you to @grease monkey for hosting the get-together and another thank you to the organiser and those presenters that gave excellent and interesting talks.
Those were definitely standout moments at the meetup! Pierre's telescope build was a fascinating showcase of craftsmanship, especially with its extensive use of 3D-printed parts to create a high-powered mounting system. It’s always impressive to see how machining and modern fabrication techniques come together in such a precise project.

Meanwhile, CWret’s cautionary presentation about tee nuts was an eye-opener. Over-torquing T-slot bed clamps can lead to serious issues, and his insights helped attendees understand the risks and best practices for avoiding costly mistakes.

so, if I may add or reply to the header at the very top of this thread, I wasnt sure what to expect as far as being a host, or what efforts to put into a meet & greet, there's only 1 way to find out! @Susquatch, @CWret and @Martin w came for a preliminary tour 2 wks prior to scope the joint and give input, which was a huge help, thanks guys, from there I just cleaned up the place (glad I did so there was room inside for all, ended up not raining, but it was too cool for hanging outdoors) rented a porta jon, talked my daughter into making sandwiches (and she jumped at the chance for making a couple "gluten free" sandwiches, which I hear were worth the effort!) and put on my best behavior!! I had a great time meeting everyone, but the time was too short for satisfactory meet with everyone! so that being said, I would recommend anyone with the facility to give it a go, my shop is 1500 sq ft, with 12' ceilings, and an acre for parking, so that worked awesome, was sure delighted to see Wise Line Tools come bearings gifts for the door prizes and bonus $50 gift card, and my Cousin Scott for his talk on CNC, and that telescope mount, that was real intriguing! Glad everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, and there very little clean up this morning! recommend it!! on that note, I have extra "tools" posters I had customized with the forum logo in the header, if anyone wants one, I'm sure we can figure out a way to get them out to You!

FYI - at the meetup we announced two things:
1. Accusize is continuing the 10% discount for CHMW members (they have an agreement with Amazon that is preventing free shipping for now)
2. Southern Ontario’s 2026 spring meetup will be hosted by @Martin w in St Catharines - thanks Martin :)
