Active project - 1972 MGB

Seems like a lot of effort for 30HP? I get it though it’s the supercharger journey that’s enticing.

Back in the day Ford offered a Paxton blow-through setup for the 289. Power supposedly jumped from 306HP to 400HP. Nowadays simply using good aftermarket heads would accomplish the same kinda of gains.

I witnessed the wild ride and minor crash of a beautiful GT350 where the carb linkage jammed at WOT inside the Cobra blow-through carb “hat” So check that before your first joy ride.

If you need more power you can always do what Carol did, use two on a 427, apparently they made 965HP which is more than enough in a 2400 lb Cobra.

The MGB driveline losses are well documented at about 30hp. A stock MGB puts out about 95hp at the crank and 68 at the rear wheels.

The M45 is a small blower, 45 cu in per revolution. I could add more boost but I want to start small and see how it goes. If I see 30 more hp at the wheels it is almost a 50% increase.

Definitely hear you on the throttle linkage. I'm retaining the stock carbs in their stock location so I should be good there.

Looks like a M45 requires between 10 & 30HP to drive.

Good thing it’s not a Roots 14-71 (blower for a top fuel engine), they require about 950HP to drive. You don’t have room under the hood;-)

It's been quite a steep learning curve the past few weeks. One thing that surprised me was that a supercharger is not a compressor, it's a pump.
