Active project - 1972 MGB

After brief research I saw that the 7000t goes on sale at Costco a few times a year and drops to the same $1600 (from $2000). Worth waiting if someone can afford to wait which is my case.

Engine and transmission are pretty much ready to pull. All that is left is to undo the transmission mount and the crossmember.
I'm somewhat shocked by the general loosness of some critical fasteners. Drain plugs got the engine oil and transmission were finger tight. One of the bolts in the transmission output flange was actually rattling around only held in place by a nylock. One of the cylinder head studs unscrewed from the block when I went to remove the nut to install the lifting bracket. 😱

David, I can't remember if I have asked you this but have you checked out this site? https://www.britishv8.org/
I use to be an active member many many years ago, put a Ford 302 V8 into a TR6, it was a rocket.
But the vast majority of the forum have MGB-V8's with the old Rover 215 V8 for an engine.
The B's handle the extra power quite well, not so much for the TR6's, I had to do extensive mods to control the torque steer.
Oh yes...I have been all over that forum. A V8 TR6 would be a fun car.
When I got the car one of the things I wanted was either and overdrive transmission or a 5-speed.
I looked at all the transmission options available.
- Vitesse Miata 5-speed - basically $10KCAD Basically a bolt in arrangement but for 10K it ought to be 😱
- Hi-Gear T9 conversion - $8000CAD Highly regarded but $8000?
- Rivergate 280ZX conversion - $1900CAD plus an unobtanium 280ZX transmission (plus I read about some dodgy installation issues)
- Dellow trans adapter for a Toyota T50 transmission $1000CAD plus used transmission for $1000-2000CAD plus whatever clutch shenanigans are required. Pretty much roll your own.

Then I lucked into finding out about Quantum Mechanics in CT. Bought a fully rebuilt (every wear item replaced) Laycock overdrive transmission for $3000CAD. Direct bolt in, the wiring harness is already in the car from the factory. Transmission came with correct gearing for my speedo and the required longer speedo cable.

But before I found the overdrive transmission I was very, very close to buying a V6 Camaro engine and a T5 transmission to swap in. A company in the interior makes the mounts, and headers to make the swap pretty much a bolt in affair. But then I would have to go through the V6 and freshen it up. The engine in the B has excellent compression, over 150 PSI hot, with about 2 PSI difference across all four cylinders.

I'm actively investigating adding an Eaton M45 supercharger, intercooler to make a blow through setup. Would add about 25-30hp at the rear wheels Used super charger is about $350, used intercooler another $200, piping another 200 or so. I need to make a manifold adapter but that path has already been cleared by a fellow in the US which put an M45 on his MG Midget.
