A new take on the present state of AI

AI is coming the momentum is to high behind it. There is a bubble but just like the bubble in late 90's tech industry gave us Google and well all the tools we use online today. So the same thing will happen. Driving cars will eventually go the way horse drawn carriage's. Just like the horses, non self driving cars will exist but they will become a smaller and smaller group every year. The plus's of AI driven cars is they are becoming smarter with each generation. Eventually there will be little to no accidents. This is not a fallacy this is statistically coming. Look at the safety of vehicles in the early 80's compared to today, compared to the 1960's. AI will be predominate in business and the office. It already is becoming a huge asset in many corners of business at this time. Engineering and programming will sadly become a thing of the past, Musk said that he expects in the next 10 years programmers will become obsolete. People fighting the change is the same as those that fought buying an automobile. There was at one time a push to ban the development and sale in automobiles. Before those laws could be drafted the automobile took off and changed the world. So will AI. For those that thing AI is a joke and not worth using your only seeing about 1/100 of 1/100th of what it can do. Maybe even less. For those curious, do not openly ask chatgpt a question. Get or make an agent and use that. Asking a general question will give you crazy answers because your asking something that has read a million books and your not confining that question to get the answer you want. Until you build an agent to guide the AI it will do crazy things.

The corporation gets sued and the company pays. No one goes to jail.

And decisions like that, will eventually cultivate very angry people, along the lines of the fella that shot the head of that medical insurance company that refused claims that could have saved the shooter's family member, IIRC.

NOT a statement of approval, rather an observation, that you can push a lot of folks, a long way, but eventually you find someone that doesn't want to be pushed any more.

But, what do I know... I still think rope should be allowed for political feedback to Politicians, and that we should still be allowed to hit the stupid with sticks to change their behaviour! 😀

I think that there are a LOT more people sitting back and ignoring the media, than there are people actively participating in modern Politics.

Several times in my career in the Canadian Forces, I have been counseled that if I wanted to change the system, I had to get IN to that system, and in a general, but politer sense, I informed those councilors that I had a pretty solid look at who I had to ingratiate myself among, and they were mostly people that I would have happily volunteered to carry their coffins, just to be certain...

Politicians, as a larger class, generally, in my experience, have been people that I would not willingly allow in my home, or near anything I cared about, and thusly, having to associate myself with them seems an even less palatable idea.

Canada is a big place. The Boreal Forest IS a forest of sticks. And there is enough Flax being grown to provide far more than enough miles of rope (plus a couple companies making some REALLY cool large scale wood chippers!).

One of my more fervent hopes (Yup. Hope Springs Eternal!) is that at some point the political folks start to pay attention to the needs of the folks that work and live and get on with their lives, rather than folding to the whinging of those non-contributors, that have the available time to go out and whinge and complain.

But, I won't hold my breath...
