  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

A maybe future project, maybe.

What you need is a honkin' big planer.
But in that case your mistake was welding the legs on - now you're probably going to have to cut them off to move and mount it. :D

I can picture that not as a gun mount, but as a support for the mast for a hoist of some sort?

See if you can find that piece in this photo.

Basically, we don't have enough money to pay for premium hosting so our server guys are constantly squeezing our photo storage. Add that to a system crash a while back where we lost a lot of photos and a partial repair that we think left us with an unstable photo system.
Ah ok thanks. I was wondering if it was just me. Pics wont enlarge just get a "not found" error.

Looks like some sort of column base, or pivoting column base. But no mounting holes has me puzzled. Maybe a cull that never got finished? Regardless, it looks like a fun casting....

No idea what it WAS, but it looks like it has the bones to become a great welding/fab table. I'd take up martins offer to machine it, and Proxules generous offer to transport it in his plane....:)

If you could also machine the round boss on the underside, and use that as a swivel feature it would be pretty slick!

Ding, ding, ding. I knew you'd get it.
This bridge was removed maybe six years ago. Its replacement is the lower structure to the right, rather boring in comparison. The bridge spans the narrow channel between Victorias inner and upper harbours linking Victoria with Vic West and Esquimalt.
I have no idea what the part was, but my guess is it allowed for a small amount of movement between components, rotating ever so slightly on the ball. My guess is that there would have been at least one more. I'm hoping the city archives will have some info or plans on the old bridge. IIRC the bridge was built in 1912.
The tits sticking up out of the top are going to be converted into a one of a kind salt and pepper shaker set for my wifes best friend whose grandfather was one of the bridge operators for a number of years.

Now that I've actually read the whole thread....I see the "ball" part. AND the post about it coming from a bridge.....Speed reading and not paying attention strike again....

Now that I see the ball part I'd be MORE inclined to incorporate it as a tilting feature somehow. Not sure when that would ever come in handy, but it would be cool.
