6mm collet for die grinder

I mounted up one of my so called 1/4" shank grinding stones & it was obviously loose. I can't even recall where I got it, but I'm got to bet a coffee it was advertised as 1/4" but is likely 6mm in reality.
6mm collets are apparently available buts gasp the price & usually in far away lands. I could probably make one but they have some funky angles & something like an ER slit pattern. There is a bit of work there. Sleeving a 6mm shank isn't really practical because the diameter difference is so close. I though about turning an adapter, but even a short one result sin some extra stick out.
- any sources to buy true 1/4 stones"? I'm highly skeptical of BS labelling now. Seems like N-Am stones are 3x the price of Asia stuff, which is of course metric. I also have a Metabo GE-710, same issue
- anyone have a workaround that isn't a PITA?

6mm collets

anyone have a workaround that isn't a PITA?

I've successfully used a strip cut from an aluminium pop can to shim 6mm up to 1/4. If it is too tight, you can make the strip wider than the collet bearing surface and use it like a shoe horn to open the collet a wee bit. It's that or buy the right size shim stock. A quick calc says 7 thou is perfect but you might still need the shoehorn.
