Bit rough looking, but could be a diamond in the rough.

I think it looks worse than it is. I've noticed that with a few pics I've taken out in my shop lately where phone cameras make things look a lot more rusty and grimy than they actually are in real life. I'm not just saying that to make my stuff seem better than it is either, because my tools are working tools, not museum pieces..... lol.

I messaged him. Haven’t heard back. What diameter do you think it is? 8”?
If it’s 8” or more I have a D1-8 plate to bolt to it. I’m sure it’s not as bad as you might think.?

Dumb question, what is the advantage of a 6 jaw over a 3 jaw?

Mainly less distortion of the part. But also better gripping with less pressure.

Everything is rubber Skippy. If you don't know that, you will soon enough. Everything moves (bends, distorts, compresses, etc) when subjected to a force. It isn't if it will move, it's only how much. Doesn't matter how big or how strong. Apply a force, it moves.

As Sus says, less distortion which can be a concern with thin walled material. That imo is their only use or at least use where they have an advantage.... which could be major if you are turning a lot of thin walled sections. They also have a strong disadvantage when holding something solid - you could get two opposing jaws doing the gripping which is not secure and will lead to wobble.
