Hi Folks. I have this surplus backing plate after my lathe upgrade It's yours for 50.00 plus mailing or I have to go to Calgary on the 15th 16th so I could bring it, It was on my Std Modern 9 x 20 collet chuck which had .001 tir so it's decent. outer dia 4.933 backing shoulder .395 mount shoulder dia 3.730 height .136.

So 1 1/2 - 8 should fit a South Bend too IIRC.

I think some had that spindle but I've not owned a Southbend, it will fit the Atlas 10 and 12 inch lathes.

Locks the chuck onto the spindle so that you can turn things in reverse. You can't do that with a non-locking mounted chuck as it will unscrew it self from the spindle.

OK, so I may be interested. I've been looking for a way to mount my ER40 collets on my SB9. So far, found two ways.

Yes. You will have to turn the face of the backing plate to match the registration on the back of the ER40 chuck and perhaps drill new mounting holes to match the ER40 chuck.

second that, the registration on the ER40 looks small enough to allow you to turn the backing plate and not have to change the shoulder but you won't know for sure till it arrives. where are you located DB Dales tools here in the hat is normally pretty competitive. If you're in Calgary or that area I could bring it on the 15th wether you bought the backing plate or not.
