  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

3C Collet: 12 mm

Engmaxx

(Michael)
Hey All,

Looking for this collet and have come up with only one source ToolsEngg (India) that will supply minimum 2 for $65 CAD each ++...$140 CAD shipped.

Anyone have an extra or even a partial/full set they would consider selling?

It is an 8.375" long drive shaft that I am replacing. I already ordered the 12 mm stock. Needs to fit bearings. Easier to deal with correct sized stock to start with. Collet work makes things easier if I can get it.

Have you tried these guys?

One option is to take a much less expensive 7/16" and put it in the lathe snugging down just enough to hold it and make all three jaws compress the same amount. Mount a Dremel on the cross slide and spin the lathe opposite to the Dremel rotation and remove 0.035 or essentially start with it just barely scratching and then slowly bring out the cross slide 0.0175" all the time moving the carriage back and forth.

Theoretically that will give you a 12mm 3C collet.

I might be interested. What sizes do you have, where do you live and what are you asking for them? PM me if you wish.

I'd be cautious about using the bigger sizes with 1/8 less thread engagement. My 5C collets have about 3/8" of thread engagement. 1/8 shorter would leave 1/4" of thread. So I'd think anything below 1/2" would be ok.

YMMV.
