  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. It was in Newcastle, right by the lake. With traffic, three hours of driving. :/

    Product Chuck for rotary table

I wonder if using a chuck on a rotary table is more down to doing multiples/short production. If you only have to dial in one piece, mounting a chuck is a pain, in fairness. But if you're doing a bunch of parts, or the same operation on a regular basis (mount this ring/cylinder, and knock X...

Hey, I'm a solid 3'3"! I can measure the cabinet when I get to work tomorrow, but it's about 60". I tried to get a weight before putting the drawers back in, and hit just over 300 lbs. I don't feel like that's a lot, but lord was it an ordeal, going up 8 steps. Dolly was too short, and my...

Tool I beat Tom Lipton to it!

I'll second the toe jack, especially for confined spaces, where a prybar isn't really practical. I bought a Vevor one (2.5 tonnes on the toe) to move the lathe in, and it was invaluable. I was very leery of relying on it (spent a lot of time blocking up as I lifted, to minimize risk), especially...

Tool I beat Tom Lipton to it!

I made a copy of the set he showed, with the pallet jack wheels at one end, on angle iron with threaded rod, and a little bearing dolly for the tailstock end. Managed to get my lathe (~3500lbs) through a man door, with an immediate 90 degree turn. I did put down some 20 gauge steel sheet on the...
