    If you are referring to a 4 jaw chuck, I think the set up with the collet would be quicker especially with repetitive work with round stock. I thought I'd give it a try. Thanks for the info.

    No, it's still on the lathe. I had some projects to finish up on the lathe and I don't have another chuck. I am looking to purchase a 6" 4 jaw chuck and then I will cut the seized backing plate off of the nose spindle.

    I think you are confusing the Town of Dalhousie in New Brunswick with the Dalhousie University which is is in Halifax Nova Scotia. But you are absolutely correct, Halifax is a charming city.
