  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    Reamer Dreamer

This thread is a derivative of my indexable boring head thread from a week or so back. I had been trying to bore a hole with indexed bar, but had to use my old vertical dovetail mill - that is simply not rigid enough to effectively maintain sufficient accuracy. I deferred the project to...

    Boring Head to AVOID

I had to make some round holes in some 0.090" 5052 (to mount guitar pickups) and they were 2 very odd sizes, so figured I needed an indexable boring head to do so. When I searched almost all of the hits were some obviously Chinese junk for just over $100 Cdn from Amazon. I know they actually...

    Vertical Band Saw

I have a pair of Marvel 8 saws that are in storage until I can build a larger shop. I keep a 7 x 10 horizontal that has served well for the last 40 years but for vertical work I have a chinese 4 x 6 that I leave mostly in vertical with tiny table that allows it to work horizontal as well. I...

    Cheng Ki Coolant Reservoir

I bought a Cheng Ki Bridgeport clone that is about 50 years old. It came with a separate coolant tank and pump, but the base casting was clearly intended to collect runoff under the knew and store it inside column. There are no electrical fitting holes to bring power inside so assume the...

    Cheng Ki Turret Mill

Years ago my wife bought a dovetail mill/drill and Marvel 8 saw from a retiring/closing shop so I would have a bit of local history in my shop. Well, loading/working that mill let me know it is really not rigid enough for some operations. So, have been looking at a Cheng Ki 1.5HP turret...

    Roboforming

I hope people are reading this area of the forum, and let me appologize if the channel in this link is already featured somewhere on the site. An extremely unique and interesting video on how one company is forming sheet metal without dedicated fixed tooling.

Who Sold or Imported Zay machines?

A few years back one of the long time machine and welding shops (Frank's) shut down for owner to retire. I wanted some momento but was out of country for the sale, so had my wife buy a milling machine and band saw. The mill is a little vertical dovetail Zay 7045FG. Chinese made I assume but...

Tool Need some sheet metal tool parts

Bought a second (much nicer than first) Marvel 8 at auction 2 months ago, and suspected estate sale and more tools to follow. Forgot about the 28 day thing in Feb so missed sale by a few hours. When I checked catalogue, there was a matching set of 48" Brown Boggs foot shear, box and pan brake...

    catching up

Since I haven't been here for the last few years, I will put in some of my purchases of late. Sold off some equipment and bought a plot of unbroken grazing land and started collecting stuff to build a shop that will become my on-farm business location. Started when an old Danish machine tool...

Hello from rural SK (near Saskatoon)

Glad to find this site as I am - as you might gather from screen name - in Canada. I have worked around and with metal forming and machining tools for a half century, but honestly I am still very much a hobbyist. Looking forward to learning from others and possibly finding some tooling deals...
