  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area.     Backing plate for 4 jaw chuck

    Just got a cheap 8” Amazon 4 jaw chuck delivered today and will need to make a 2 1/4”-8 backing plate. Does the backing plate need to be the same size as the chuck? I have some 5” durabar that could be used. Here’s a picture of the back of the chuck.

    Belt sander vs bench grinder

    I’m looking to upgrade from the grinder in the vise. I can see the advantages of a disc/belt grinder combo, is there anything that they don’t do as well as a bench grinder? Main use will be sharpening hss lathe tooling and tungsten buy it would be nice to be able use the sander for finishing.
