    Hello from Toronto!

Welcome from Oakville! Are you aware of or connected with the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA)? A buddy of mine is really into SCA and has told me about the mock battles, axe throwing competitions, chain mail armour, etc, etc. Seems to have a considerable overlap. Craig

iPhone to Android - phone recommendations?

To my way of thinking, the backup is free as I would have had the subscription to Apple Music and Apple TV+ anyway. (TV+ has a decent stream of interesting new series, eg Slow Horses.) This way, all four of us have those services for basically nothing extra. Craig (We don't back up our...

iPhone to Android - phone recommendations?

We've gone with the Apple One Family plan. The four in our family share 200 GB of cloud storage so there is never a space problem. We can each use Apple Music and Apple TV+ from any device. It is $26 per month which is basically the price of a subscription for one to Music and TV+...

iPhone to Android - phone recommendations?

The basic 5 GB allotment is an embarrassment to Apple and should be increased. However: https://www.tomsguide.com/news/is-your-icloud-storage-full-5-tips-on-how-to-free-up-space Craig

iPhone to Android - phone recommendations?

Actually, you can limit the max percentage the battery is charged to on iOS. From Settings, got to Battery -> Charging. However, there seems to be little practical benefit. iOS charges the battery slowly between 80 and 100 per cent. Someone did a year long test of limiting to 80%. They...

Will this work for my Atlas 618?

The key is that you have to get your cutters low enough to cut on centre. That Busybee set is "AXA" size but most people use the smaller "0XA" size with a 618. You might possibly be able to make it work with 1/4 inch shank tools as the cutting edge will automatically be at a lower height. The...

    Machine keith Rucker's 10ee conversion

Susq does a good job of summarizing the _general_ case for a VFD and I don't disagree. I'll just point out that this thread started out about Keith's _specific_ instance involving a 10ee. The 10ee is a stout lathe and came equipped--in the 1940's--with a drive system that is tough to match...

    Machine keith Rucker's 10ee conversion

I could be wrong but I believe the motivation was something like...the lathe came with the DC motor, which included a back gear arrangement, and is capable of good torque through a wide RPM range. He wanted to keep the machine as original as possible but drive it with modern, reliable...

    Worth picking up a mill/drill?

That looks like an RF-25 machine. I believe they usually have a 7.5 X 23 inch table. Weight is typically about 350 pounds v. 500-600 for RF-30 class machines. Looks like the motor has been replaced. Nonetheless, you could almost certainly refurbish it and flip it for a profit. Soak the...

    Swinger Attachments

Shaming? No! I'm sure we all support @Mcgyver together with other consenting adults in any of their private activities... with a motorized sewing machine... and Swinger accessories. Right?!? ;) Craig
