    New to me colchester lathe

A few years ago at work, the electrician got the Colchester wired and plug in and it wouldn't work. He looked at every connection and all was good. We then realized there was a safety switch on the side cover. We screwed in the holding screw a bit more and she came to life. You did an awesome...

Congrats! With a bit of TLC it will make a nice lathe. I have a Colchester student with the standard gear box, I like it but I sure wish I had the metric gear box like your. Tool boring bars for HSS bits

I usually turn acrylic using HSS cutter. I have good results if I grind a good radius (1/16") round nose on the end. The radius help reduce stress point on your parts. But if you anneal the acrylic after machining it won't mind sharp corners. I sometimes need coolant, I then , mix some water...

Galvanizing. GTA Sources, and tips and tricks

Very good prep advice above. 30 years ago my friend and I built two trailers together. It was really nice of him to offer and teach me the build process at his home shop. It took us all day to build both, then I drove home with my trailer hooked behind my car. I had a grin the whole way. Two...

    Ultrasonic cleaner fluid suggestions

Like ChazzC, I also put my cleaning solution in a ziplok bag or a plastic cup with DIY foam floating ring. It's important your that your parts don't sink and rub on the bottom of the US tank. If they are heavy enough they will wear the bottom of the tank. Don't ask me how I know. I usually...

    Plasma cut quality

I have a Lotos 40, with no pilot arc start. It uses the drag style castellated tip. The last time I used it, I was getting a lot of slag on the back side and inconsistent cutting. I tried different cutting speeds, currents and air pressure with no luck. After I replace the castellated tip I got...
