    Tool Gage pin

As a retired machinist/job shop owner, I find these discussions amusing. On a milling machine you measure .0002 runout accumulated between spindle, collet and pin?!! Quit fooling around and get back to work.

Tips/Techniques Arbor Press Mod and TOT

This Old Tony released a video today on arbor presses, including a modification to allow re-clocking the handle on presses without a ratchet. The mod he details involves milling some teeth off the bottom of the rack. I like this mod better, it allows re-clocking the handle while the ram is in...

    Tap Sockets/Drivers

We have a winner! I bought one of everything, but this is what I wanted. May even mill a hex on the OD and shorten the shank so it fits up into the chuck

    Collet questions

Regarding the set-screw in an R8 spindle, when I worked for Fred and when I owned my shop, we always removed the set-screw. They aren't needed to hold the collet while tightening, they aren't sufficient to drive the collet if the taper slips and they can make it nearly impossible to get whatever...

    Product Facemill & Insert Rave

It's been a year since I bought this 50mm facemill. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2255799996995364.html? It's seen quite a bit of use, milling mostly 4140HT and hardened lathe tools. I've been very happy with the performance of the cutter, but I've been absolutely astounded by the...

    Carbide shims/anvils

There are 250-101T (XL) AXA holders which will take up to 3/4 tools. https://www.ebay.com/itm/254537215406 I've milled a lot of import tool shanks. They are hard, but not that hard. I've tooled my lathe completely with tools like this set. They've all been good quality, no junk...

    Corner Rounding Endmills are Expensive

I haven't tried them with 1/4" shanks, but you've nothing to lose.

    Corner Rounding Endmills are Expensive

Yep, I took the bearing off, but all of the bits are exactly 1/2" diameter at the inside of the radius. Makes positioning easy.
