    Tool POS Tap Guide

I had no idea Amazon wouldn't even let you see the page, doesn't seem to be a problem the other way around. I'll try to remember to screen shot the pages. A VPN would solve that problem, you can be anywhere you want. The driver set I got is not rigid like you described, it has a flexible...

    Tool POS Tap Guide

I've been doing a lot of hand tapping in the mill, mostly #8 & #10 blind holes. In an effort to reduce the amount of knee cranking, along with some others, I bought a set similar to the Lisle set. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09HH6NVMD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I...

Yes, the shaft is just a dowel pin. No spring, the tap handle just floats on the shaft. All too often the shaft falls out between toolbox and machine and rolls under something. The same is true of the handles, I put some plastic caps on mine to keep them from sliding out. A standard tap handle...

    Tool POS Tap Guide

I've never had a tap follower, I bought a set of piloted spindle tappers early in my apprenticeship. But, lacking power knee lift, I'm always looking for ways to reduce the required z clearance. I stumbled upon this idea, which I like a lot when combined with 1/4 hex tap drivers.

    Parting is such sweet sorrow

I use inserted carbide tooling for everything on my Heavy 10, everything EXCEPT parting. I don't use power feed, I like to be able to feel the cut. I long ago learned what @Susquatch stated to eloquently, if it starts to chatter, feed it harder. Parting is no more stressful than turning. Back...

ICYMI - In case you missed it. TLDR - Too long, didn't read SOHCAHTOA FTW (for the win), the most useful acronym I ever learned.

Best Cutting Tools for Lathe Beginner

While we're on the subject of carbide, I've been buying these 8mm endmills (which fit in a 5/16 collet) by the handful. Sometimes you just need an endmill, size is not important. In multiples of 3 they are less than $4 each. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2251832710801758.html

Best Cutting Tools for Lathe Beginner

I do sharpen my own drills, I had to learn how in school. Harry would take a 3/8 drill, knock the corners off, hand it to you and start his stopwatch. You had 2 minutes. Every time I place an order with McMaster I include a few stub length drills in the most common tap drill sizes. I'm getting...
