Rebuilding a 10" Standard Modern Utilathe

So I got a chunk of brass, enough so if I screwed it up I would have two more chances. The tap showed up and looked pretty good for only $28 bucks so I gave it a try first, I was really pleased with how well worked. Threaded the screw in and it is slightly stiff at the extremes of travel but...

Looking for non-US made angle grinder

Home Hardware use to carry Hitachi right angle grinders, I have 2, one is 25 yrs old the other 10, I abuse the hell out of both of them and they never let me down. I'm pretty sure Hitachi is still Japanese.

How to get the index ring back onto the hand wheel?

Took apart the top slide on the saddle to clean it up and now I have to re install the index ring on the hand wheel. I've done this a few times but usually it's just one spring and a ball bearing, this one has three and the springs are strong enough to send the ball bearing across the room...

Rebuilding a 10" Standard Modern Utilathe

The nut is cast iron and although there is some wear in the middle of the lead screw the threads in the nut are sharp and paper thin at the peak of the threads so the nut has taken most of the wear. The pic below is after a couple of strokes with a hacksaw.

Rebuilding a 10" Standard Modern Utilathe

The original nut is cast iron and I have some high quality cast iron left over from the modifications on the tailstock but you're saying I should use bronze for the final product? I ordered the cheapie tap from amazon just in case and now that I have 2 viable options I think I may give the...

    How welders fix things.

Come to think of it, that toilet roll holder has been mounted upside down, there's alot more strength to be had in sheer if it was mounted the other way around. Excellent fabrication, very poor installation.
