To keep my Wi-Fi electrobits from escaping, of course! That stuff's expensive.

1/2" ply over on top of 1" foamboard on studs. I like ply because it's easier to mount shelves anywhere and its much more secure. The foamboard adds insulation and it acts as a vapor barrier too. I used 1" foil backed polyisocyanurate boards which had the secondary effect of creating a fairly...

Looking for milling machine purchase help/advice

One of the more frustrating limitations of small mills is the vertical travel of the head vs. the table. By the time you have a vice (2-1/2" high) a Jacobs chuck (3-1/2"), drill (2-4") and the work itself there's not a lot of room left to clear the job. Worse if you are going to be boring with...

    Bambu Lab 3rd Anniversary Sale

I came real close to pulling the trigger on a subscription to OnShape https://www.onshape.com/en/. It is perhaps more intuitive than Fusion and quite capable. There's a 'free' option for startups and sometimes other deals too. Worth a look if you are CAD challenged.

Benchtop Hobbing Machine - The BHM

Lots of updates and tuning after the shakedown test! Lesson #1 don't rely on set screws. Lesson #2 Turn on brain before operating machinery. I rebuilt the column and key as mentioned before, which improved the column rotary lock significantly. The head is now rigid with respect to the base...

    Help from the electronic gurus

Its the LED driver. It provides a constant current to the LED. That specific shape and size is probably proprietary, but there are others. Just match the input (115AC?) and the output (usually 12v, sometimes 24 or 36v) to your light. They are available on Amazoom, but it might be less moolah...

    Anyone using ChatGTP?

I find these AI systems to be immensely useful. I had been using ChatGPT for research (excellent) and coding (not so great) and for "what-if?" questions. More recently I changed to Gemini Pro after wasting a couple of weeks with the chatGPT coding tool CodePilot. Even the latest versions of...
