  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. Lost foam aluminium casting issues

https://canadianhobbymetalworkers.com/threads/welcome-to-westwood-metalworks-what-is-he-building-in-there.11706/page-8#post-182594 Here's the hot wire I made a while back. Works great. I've since switched to nichrome wire instead of guitar or safety wire. Works even better. My first wheel...

Yeah, of course they're branched out like that. I know that.... The point wasn't literally the maze itself, but the methodology of solving problems working backward from the solution. Told ya, I can't explain it. It's just how my brain is wired. Reverse polarity or something....

Welcome to Westwood Metalworks, What is he building in there?

Got some finishing touches done today. The axles pressed in, and all the wheels but one mounted. There is about a 1 thou interference on the 1/2" diameter, and I will eventually weld the backside, but want to run it first incase there's any issues with that design. With any luck I'll...

    Lost foam aluminium casting issues

I have only done 2. Dry sand, and I used a thinned down drywall coating. While I got really good surface finishes, I've been plagued by venting and fill issues. I have one more pattern made ready to cast, and I think I have learned enough from the various mistakes so far and "expect" a good...

    How would you do this?

Squatch brings up a great point I missed last night. Securing the sleeve. Drilling and tapping another set screw 90* to the existing one would be a good addition also.

    How would you do this?

I probably would have done it your way. I like the sacrificial shaft method. Another similar method would be to cut a slot in your sleeve, but leave the ends intact to constrain the key to the shaft like a Pratt and Whitney key. Or maybe leave one end (the motor side) fully intact. If the...

Welcome to Westwood Metalworks, What is he building in there?

Found a few axles hiding in these today...Salvaged 6"x1-1/4" FHCS from rock crusher wear plates I worked on a few months back. I save everything :D Have not pressed them in fully yet, but will probably do them tomorrow, as well as a few more finishing touches. All wheels except the drive...
