  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    How to load a lathe

True but if you already have a trailer the gantry makes loading easier than rolling it onto a drop bed trailer. In any case there’s a lot of ways to do this.

    How to load a lathe

I wouldn’t bother renting a drop deck trailer if you already have your own flat bed trailer. Rent a gantry crane with a wide enough span for your trailer and back the trailer in under it.

    How to load a lathe

Yup. It’s not quick but it worked and no scary moments. Better than I can say for some of the forklift machine lifts I’ve seen lately.

    How to load a lathe

I loaded and unloaded my hendey T&G which is a similar weight and size without a crane or forklift. Reinforced the trailer ramp with two 2x6s. Wheel chocks on the trailer, jackstands under the trailers rear corners (in case the trailer tries to tip). Use the tongue jack to tip the trailer back...

The “free” First LC-1 1/2 VS Mill

All the 600v VFDs I’ve seen are 3 phase 600v in, 3 phase 600v out. So they really don’t solve any problem. I don’t really have any interest in transformers or phase converters. In the past I’ve always just replaced motors or had them rewound. I’ll have to take a closer look at this motor, how...

The “free” First LC-1 1/2 VS Mill

Right now the mill is being stored at a friends shop here in Hamilton. I’m not sure how soon I can get started but my plan is to disassemble all the major parts there and clean everything up (ram, table, saddle, knee, column ways, leadscrews etc.). I’ll take the head with me to diagnose the...

The “free” First LC-1 1/2 VS Mill

Starting in a new thread in the right subforum. This won’t be nearly as extensive as my Hendey project but there will be some work. Attached are some additional photos @Canadium took yesterday. The green battery powered forklift was a bit sketchy but saved some time and effort. The...

    Deal of a lifetime?

It’s not perfect but the ways are in much better shape than my current excello. Head issue still TBD Power feed works. Readout works only on one axis. Bit grimy but I’ve paid money for dirtier machines lol

    Test bar ...again

Fascinating! I was looking into a bit in regards to my hendey spindle. It’s around 1-2 tenths runout on both ID and OD tapers. P4 spec is 4 microns runout max in the size of bearings it takes which is 1.5 tenths. The runout I measured had the hallmark sign of coming from the roller bearings...
