5c collet nose adaptor for lathe spindle

Yes I guess you would need a test indicator with a longer probe. I have a mitutoyo one that would probably go 2” in while still being able to read the dial. The other thing is getting the tip on center. If you have a tool height standard I think getting the ball on the probe lined up by eye...

5c collet nose adaptor for lathe spindle

You can use a test indicator in the spindle bore to get the angle for the compound. I’ve done it before, although with an external taper, to make chuck backplates.

5c collet nose adaptor for lathe spindle

The one I have is turned. I don’t see the same one on eBay anymore but the seller was making them on a CNC lathe. To make one yourself, I would only rough in the ID features at first, turn the MT and then finish machine the collet seat in place. I’ll take photos of the pieces tonight and...

5c collet nose adaptor for lathe spindle

What size taper is the spindle? I bought MT5 to 5C sleeve and a drawtube for the lathe I’m rebuilding but I’m thinking about just getting a 5C chuck instead. The draw tube is not finished, just a plain tube with the right threads on the end. You would need to add a handwheel.

The polite thing to do is at least use a bit of coloured electrical tape near the end of the wire in the right colour!

    Granite Master Square

I do have a use for a master square like this. I’d be willing to trade for something smaller of comparable quality but I don’t think I’d sell it as going out and buying something to replace it would be very costly.

    Granite Master Square

I think I’ve talked myself out of that. My excello would need to be reconditioned to justify holding onto it long term. The problem is without adequate working space and a convenient way to move the parts around there isn’t much point. Better off just to sell it as a project or a parts machine...

    Hendey T&G Lathe

Back to the lathe! Some progress cleaning out the QCGB. Mostly just a lot of old grease, condition of the components seems to be quite good. I’ll post the after photos when I’m done. Also some progress on scraping the saddle. The narrow V ways are tricky but it’s getting easier as I go along.
