  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. Any solutions to my problem?

Most 'modern' (i.e. in the past 30-40 yrs) household sewing machines have 'electronic' controls and some of the foot pedals have a pot (vs a rheostat) inside. A bit of re-wiring might be required, since the connections are often to only two terminals, but the mechanical system is pretty well...

Machine I hate my change gears!

I don't really see your point. Here's a snip from the Logan 210 manual: I've confirmed several of those spindle speeds using a hand-held tachometer (reflective tape on the spindle), so it seems accurate for my machine.

Machine I hate my change gears!

Thanks, John. I joined your group at groups.io and I'll do some reading there. For now I'm going to see if I can get a stepper motor belted to the end of the leadscrew with a simple controller for speed and rotation direction. If that's successful, I may move on to an ELS at some point.

Machine I hate my change gears!

With the back gears the Logan will do as slow as 70 or 30 rpm, depending on the motor belt position.

Machine I hate my change gears!

The Logan has back gears so the low speeds (with power) are a big improvement over the 7x lathe. It's the longitudinal feed rate for turning- .0046"/rev is the slowest- that I don't like, for now. The 7x with aftermarket gears gets the feed rate down to .0026"/rev which is almost, but not quite...

Machine I hate my change gears!

Thanks, John. I've looked around on the internet and there don't seem to be any "off the shelf" "plug and play" ELS setups for sale. If I could buy something like Jon Bryan's "Atomic" ELS 'off the shelf' I'd probably do it. I'm not interested in writing and debugging code, etching PCBs, or...

    3D Printer Recommendations

Any opinions on the Prusa printers? https://www.prusa3d.com/ When I hear 'some troubleshooting required" I tend to run away... :)

Machine I hate my change gears!

True..........once one gets past the hundreds (for me, thousands) of hours to climb up that learning curve and do the mod$ and programming, etc.... :) Anyway, that would take the 'hobby' out of it for me...it's 'pastime' not 'production' . That said, I think a Craftex CX701 (or similar) might...
