  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Worth considering complete disassembly and rebuilding the broken section with brazing rod?

Looking for a set of change gears for a King 1022 lathe

My guess is the Grizzly 10x22 is very similar. The Busy Bee parts drawing is quite different, while King & Grizzly drawings are identical. Parts from Grizzly tend to be cheaper than BB or King, but as an example the 127-tooth gear from Grizzly is $58 US. If you end up having to buy a complete...

One less John on the Forum

Sigh. When the Lord gave us free will, He maybe didn’t figure on how many of us would use it to be sneaky a-holes. You didn’t lose a friend, because friends love you no matter what you look like.

I think that might be a tiny bit more expensive than my $130 Vevor CNC router.

Can't access threads when logged in, can see them when logged out

Same here. I can see posts when logged out, and when logged in I can search and find posts, but <New Posts> displays <Oops! We ran into some problems. A server error occurred. Please try again later.> Trying to upload a screen shot of the error got this: <Oops! We ran into some problems. The...

    King 1440 Lathe Speed plate

No reason not to go with a 3-phase and a VFD. The second photo in post #14 is the speed chart for my mill. 12-speed belt system with a very conservative VFD configuration. Allows me to use the VFD to adjust speed, say when step drilling steel using a range of drills, without having to change...

    Rust is the Enemy

Wild-ass idea. These are the storage boxes behind the cab, on the frame sides? Big metal box for straps and miscellaneous stuff? You have this enormous heat source, burning fuel to move stuff around the country. Most of the energy from the fuel goes out the exhaust, and the engine is surrounded...

    Rust is the Enemy

Or 150 yards from a tidal estuary that changes from fresh water to salt water twice a day. Coupled with an average of 170 days of rain per year. 52 days so far in 2025. However, no salt on our roads.

    King 1440 Lathe Speed plate

Looks like the original is painted, perfect situation to just clean off the paint and do a proper engraved panel. As long as you tell me what it’s supposed to read then I can engrave the original. Do you want the factory symbols, or real words? <Light> instead of the lightbulb graphic? A...

    Reamer Dreamer

Why you want a set of Greenlee punches. 14ga steel, 0.840" holes for 1/2" NPT conduit connectors, zero burrs, dead concentric with the 3/8" pilot holes I punched with my Roper Whitney #12 punch. No swarf, no deburring (unlike the 5/32" drilled holes for the panel mounting screws). And my...
