  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    TIG rod size

@Degen - when you say "rod" are you referring to the tungsten electrode? What size tungsten are you running? Colour/electrode type? I always grind my tungsten to a point - I have a transformer machine so the point tends to "blunt" or round a little when it gets a little heat in it. Inverter...

Propane is being hooked up so I'll have heat in the shop soon. Lathe is getting some attention - trying to give a good clean (partially disassembled), change the oil to hydraulic and flush the oilers(?) of 75w90 w/ Way oil that's been provided to me (much appreciated to the forum member that...

Are wives (or husbands...) that bad?

My shop stuff is willed to my brother to make it a little easier on my better half should something happen. For my situation, it's much tongue in cheek but the primary source is "her" comments. Although she sees the space, mess, unfinished projects, etc. etc. etc. as a pain in the butt she...

The tubing blocks/adjustable tubing blocks are the ticket Marco - I wasn't aware they existed but now that I see them those are what I need to build/buy at some point soon. Homemade "helicoil" to repair a blind hole that had a broken bolt and then an extractor broken off inside of it. This is a friend's ice racing car (like $500 junker) - he can only work on it at my place on the weekends and he needs to have it up in Minden next weekend. Good enough for the...

    Hello from SW Ontario

My buddy that owns Moto86 (near Wingham, just outside of Whitechurch) was selling Ultralights - I'm not sure if he still is.

Thanks for pointing those out @Chicken lights - I actually sold the style that Eastwood copied after I used my mill and annular cutter for the first time. The next "jump" for me would be to get something like this from Baileigh (or Mittler Bros, or, or, or)...

    Cambridge - machinist newb

I'm moving the continuation of this thread out of the "Intro" topic and into the "Projects" so I'm not bumping new member's threads. Thanks for understanding. https://canadianhobbymetalworkers.com/threads/thirtyone-drivers-projects.4583/

    ThirtyOne Driver's projects

Posts to the "Intros" forum and my 7 page thread keep bumping other new member's posts and I'd like to stop doing that. My intent is to continue that thread here and keep my projects and the related questions in one spot. Of course, I'm still a "Cambridge - machinist newb" so feel free to jump...
